Veeramani wanted Diwali sweets but got expensive COD orders, then an online delivery app stepped in

A Diwali request for sweets turned into a series of unwanted cash-on-delivery (COD) orders for Madurai-based content creator Veeramani after pranksters used his publicly shared address to send him expensive products. The viral stunt has now taken a happier turn, with quick-commerce platform Swiggy Instamart stepping in to surprise him with gifts and the box of sweets he had originally hoped to receive.

How Veeramani’s Diwali request backfired

Veeramani had shared his address on Instagram hoping that people would send him Diwali sweets. Instead, strangers began placing COD orders in his name for items he had never requested, including televisions, refrigerators and other expensive household appliances.

In one particularly bizarre incident, someone reportedly placed a prank order for a tanker worth Rs 70 crore. Veeramani shared his reactions to the unexpected deliveries on social media, turning the episode into a viral story.

Instamart turns the prank into a Diwali surprise

As the incident gained traction online, Swiggy Instamart joined the viral trend with a surprise of its own. The platform sent Veeramani a range of gifts, including a mobile phone, a PC, a projector, an induction cooker, household appliances and, most importantly, Diwali sweets.

In a skit-style video, Veeramani was once again heard asking who had ordered the products to his address, saying he no longer had money to pay for the deliveries. An Instamart worker then revealed that the items were gifts from the platform as part of its campaign.

Unlike the earlier deliveries, the gifts came without any COD payment, giving Veeramani the happy ending his original request had been missing.

Viral stunt gets a happy ending

The gesture was part of Instamart’s Quick India Movement Sale campaign. The video has garnered more than 8.2 million views on Instagram, with users celebrating the platform’s intervention.

“Finally A Happy Ending,” one user commented, while another wrote, “Finallyyyy bruh got sweets and gifts for diwaliiii.”

“Finally bro got the sweet he expected,” another person remarked.

Several users also praised Instamart’s marketing strategy. One comment read, “Anna got sponsorship after 1 idea. An idea can change your life.”

Another user said the platform was “smart enough to turn this into a marketing promo,” while others applauded Instamart for turning a stressful viral prank into a festive surprise.
