Varun Dagar of India’s Best Dancer 2 says he was ‘manhandled’ by parking managers, Delhi Police; shares video

Varun Dagar, a former contestant of India's Best Dancer 2, uploaded a disturbing video on his Instagram account, claiming that he was being "dragged and manhandled" by car park managers and police officers at Connaught Place in Delhi. Varun is a street performer, commonly known as a busker, who can be frequently seen dancing in CP. Varun Dagar posted a video on his Instagram profile showing several men pulling him along.

Varun explained in a Hindi caption that when the police arrived to ask him to vacate his spot in B Block, the parking managers of the block joined them. When a commotion broke out, Varun was in the process of packing up when the parking managers approached him, grabbed him by the collar, and cursed at him. They then dragged him out of the spot, according to him.

Varun also claimed in his post that a police officer "pulled his hair" and hit him with his elbow before forcing him into the police van. He stated that he intends to take legal action against those who assaulted him, stating that they had no right to do so.


Varun Dagar asserted, “They had no right to assault me like this and I am now going to take legal action against them."



While the video spread on social media like a wildfire, several influencers, actors, and Varun’s followers have shown support for the artist and urged “freedom to express art”. Aly Goni shared Varun Dagar's video on his Instagram stories and expressed his support by writing, ‘Your job is to catch thieves, gangsters, and drug dealers... not to go after an artist who is earning money with dignity through his good work. Shame on you @delhi.police_official (sic)’. Another internet user said, “Since you’ve got justice to lot of people. I think an artist who is not making any chaos in public place is free to express his art and I think that’s the freedom he would expect in his country.”
