Varisu vs Thunivu Box Office Collection Day 16: Vijay’s Varisu far ahead in lead

Tamil films starring Thalapathy Vijay and Thala Ajith Kumar had a head to head competition in the opening week itself. While the two big south films — Varisu, Thunivu are outperforming in the box office, Vijay's Varisu crossed 150 crore mark and Ajith’s Thunivu is slowly reaching the milestone. Varisu gained roughly Rs 2.50-2.80 crore on Day 16, while Thunivu made Rs 1.60-1.80 crore. This is the first clash between both mega actors in 9 years.

Vijay's film is outperforming the expectation of fans and critics at the box office. It has become the actor’s second-highest-grossing picture. Varisu earned roughly Rs 2.50-2.80 crore on the 16th day of its release, With this, the film's gross earnings is Rs 186 crore in India and the worldwide collection is Rs. 82 crore. Varisu is an emotional action drama starring Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead.

Thunivu had an opening of Rs.1.60-1.80 crore on Day 16. It remains far behind in the box office race with Varisu. Ajith's film apparently generated Rs 131 crore in India and Rs 52 crores worldwide. Thunivu is on track to surpass the box office earnings of Valimai and become Ajith's highest-earning picture. Thunivu is a heist thriller film. The movie featured Manju Warrier, Amir, Pavani, John Kokken, Bagavathi Perumal and GM Sundar in prominent roles.


Both the movies have dipped this week in box office after the audience’s interest was diverted to Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ release.
