Gujarat weather today, July 31: Red alert in Vadodara, Ahmedabad; check Jamnagar, Gandhinagar forecast

Gujarat is likely to witness another spell of widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall over Friday and Saturday as a deep depression moves westward towards the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather system, supported by a shear zone, an offshore trough and an active Western Disturbance, is expected to keep rainfall activity intense across several districts before conditions begin to improve from Sunday. The latest forecast comes after multiple extreme rainfall events in Gujarat over the past week, with flood-like situations reported in parts of South Gujarat and severe waterlogging in Ahmedabad.

Deep depression moving towards Gujarat

According to the IMD, the deep depression is currently centred over west-central Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and southeast Madhya Pradesh and is moving west-southwest at around 15 kmph. Although it is expected to weaken into a depression during the next 24 hours, its movement across southern Madhya Pradesh is likely to keep it on course towards Gujarat.

Meteorologists said the combined influence of the depression, an offshore trough, a shear zone and an active Western Disturbance will result in widespread rainfall across the state through Friday and Saturday.

Vadodara weather today

Vadodara is expected to record a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 31 degrees Celsius on Friday. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with rain and warned of extremely heavy rainfall in the city. Vadodara is among the districts placed under a red alert for Friday as the approaching depression is expected to bring intense rainfall across parts of Gujarat.

Ahmedabad weather today

Ahmedabad is likely to witness thunderstorms with rain on Friday. The city is expected to record a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are likely to remain between 70 and 75 per cent. The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall in the region.

Jamnagar weather today

Jamnagar is likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain, with heavy rainfall expected. The temperature is likely to remain between 27 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are expected to range from 75 to 85 per cent.

Kandla weather today

Kandla is likely to witness thunderstorms with rain on Friday. The minimum temperature is expected to be 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may reach 33 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are likely to remain between 60 and 80 per cent. Heavy rainfall is forecast in the region.

Rajkot weather today

Rajkot is expected to receive thunderstorms with rain. The temperature is likely to range between 26 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are expected to remain between 50 and 80 per cent. The IMD has forecast very heavy rainfall in the city.

Gandhinagar weather today

Gandhinagar is likely to witness thunderstorms with rain on Friday. The city is expected to record a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are likely to range between 70 and 75 per cent. Very heavy rainfall is forecast in the region.

Red alert for multiple districts on Friday

The IMD has issued a red alert for Friday for Narmada, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Bhavnagar and Botad, warning of exceptionally heavy rainfall.

Vadodara is forecast to record temperatures between 26 and 31 degrees Celsius, with thunderstorms accompanied by rain and extremely heavy rainfall.

An orange alert has also been issued for Gandhinagar, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli and other districts in the Saurashtra region, where very heavy rainfall is expected. Several other districts are also likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by light thunderstorms.

Red alert continues for Saturday

For Saturday, the IMD has placed Ahmedabad, Anand, Surendranagar and Rajkot under a red alert, indicating the possibility of another day of exceptionally heavy rainfall.

State records above-average monsoon rainfall

The latest spell follows a series of intense rainfall events across Gujarat this monsoon season. Valsad received 106 cm of rainfall on July 23, Vautha in Ahmedabad recorded 72 cm on July 24, and Santalpur in Patan logged 39 cm on July 25.

As of Thursday morning, Gujarat had received 55 per cent of its average seasonal rainfall. South Gujarat has recorded 79 per cent of its seasonal rainfall, while Kutch has received 19 per cent, with the approaching weather system expected to add to rainfall totals across the state.

Recent heavy rain triggers flooding

In recent days, heavy rainfall led to flood-like conditions in parts of South Gujarat, including Surat, Valsad and Navsari. Ahmedabad city and surrounding areas also witnessed severe waterlogging following intense showers.
