An unusual scene from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district has gone viral online, showing power department employees spraying water on an overheated transformer and using a stand fan to cool it amid intense heat conditions across North India.

The video from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district showing power department workers spraying water on an overheated transformer and placing a stand fan beside it has gone viral on social media, drawing attention amid rising temperatures across North India.

The visuals show employees of the local power department repeatedly sprinkling water on the transformer in an effort to bring down its temperature. A stand fan is also seen running nearby as part of the makeshift cooling arrangement. The unusual method has sparked discussion online, with many users reacting to the extreme conditions faced by field staff during peak summer heat.

According to a power department official speaking to PTI, the ambient temperature in the region is currently around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. The transformer, however, is operating at approximately 75 degrees Celsius. The official explained that the temperature cannot be allowed to rise further, as it could risk damage or failure of the equipment.

To manage the situation, workers are spraying water on the transformer at regular intervals of around 30 minutes to keep its temperature within safe operating limits. The practice is being used as a temporary measure to prevent overheating and ensure continued electricity supply in the area.
