Online shopping platforms have witnessed numerous instances of products being listed at exorbitant prices, far exceeding their original value. However, one particular item listed on Etsy, an American e-commerce company, has caught the attention of Indians due to its ubiquity in rural households.

The product in question is the traditional Indian charpai or khatiya, commonly found in villages and available for purchase at prices ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000. Surprisingly, this ordinary item was listed on the shopping portal for a staggering ₹112,168.

Described as a "traditional Indian bed with very beautiful decor," the handmade charpai is said to be crafted using materials such as wood and jute ropes. The item is produced and shipped by a small business based in India, as mentioned in the product description. The description also provides details about the size of the charpai.

This traditional Indian bed goes by various names in different parts of India and Southeast Asian nations. In North India, it is referred to as manjaa, khaat, khatia, or manji.

In a similar vein, luxury brand Balenciaga made headlines with its introduction of a pouch inspired by ordinary garbage bin bags.
Astonishingly, the brand priced this bag at a staggering Rs 1.4 lakh. While resembling a trash bag, the Balenciaga pouch stands out due to its use of supple calfskin leather instead of plastic, adding a luxurious touch. The brand seems to be fully aware of the audacity of its creation, with Balenciaga's creative director, Demna Gvasalia, commenting to Women's Wear Daily, "I couldn't resist the opportunity to create the world's most expensive trash bag because who doesn't appreciate a fashion scandal?"
