Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of Dr. Charles B Almond, initiated the concept of dedicating a day to honor physicians. The 30th of March was selected as the anniversary of Dr. Crawford W. Long's first anaesthetic administration in Jefferson, Georgia, in 1842.
