Other Backward Class groups and politicians had raised objections to the previous advertisement, accusing it of allotting a lower number of seats to the community than prescribed under the 27 per cent reservation guideline.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the matter and instructed UPSSSC to follow the reservation rules properly, following which the commission released a revised category-wise vacancy list.
Revised category-wise vacancy details
The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has released revised category-wise vacancy details for the Lekhpal Recruitment 2026. As per the updated list, vacancies for Other Backward Classes have increased from 1,441 to 2,158 posts. Scheduled Caste vacancies have risen from 1,426 to 1,679, while Scheduled Tribe posts have seen a significant increase from 10 to 160.The number of vacancies for the Economically Weaker Sections remains unchanged at 792. Owing to the increase in reserved category posts, General category vacancies have been reduced by 905 and now stand at 3,205. The total number of posts remains 7,994.
UPSSSC 2026: Application schedule, fee and age limit
According to the notification, online applications will begin on December 29, 2025. The last date to apply online is January 28, 2026, which is also the deadline for fee payment. The correction window will remain open until February 4, 2026.The application fee is Rs 25 for all categories, including General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST and PWD. Applicants must be between 18 and 40 years of age as on July 1, 2025.
UPSSSC 2026: Eligibility, selection process and salary
Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised institution and must have qualified the UPSSSC PET 2025.The selection process involves shortlisting based on PET scores, followed by a written examination, document verification and a medical test. Selected candidates will receive a monthly salary ranging from Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100, along with applicable allowances as per government norms.
