UPSC CSE Final Result 2026: When will personality tests be conducted
The Personality Test phase, which carries 275 marks, took place at the UPSC headquarters at Dholpur House on Shahjahan Road in New Delhi. The interviews began in January 2026.Unlike written examinations, the Personality Test stage does not require a minimum qualifying mark. Instead, it acts as the deciding factor that shapes the final ranking of candidates.

- Marks from the Civil Services Mains written examination
- Scores obtained in the Personality Test
UPSC CSE Exam: 979 vacancies notified for 2025 cycle
For the 2025 Civil Services recruitment cycle, UPSC notified 979 vacancies across various central government services. This number is slightly lower compared with some previous recruitment cycles.Out of these, 38 posts are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, divided into the following categories:
- 12 vacancies for blindness and low vision
- 7 vacancies for hearing impairment
- 10 vacancies for locomotor disabilities
- 9 vacancies for multiple disabilities
The vacancy structure reflects the commission’s continued effort to ensure representation and inclusivity in government recruitment.
Service allocation after final selection
After the final merit list is published, UPSC will send its recommendations to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for service allocation.- Final rank in the merit list

- Service preferences submitted in the Detailed Application Form (DAF-II)
- Once allocation is completed, selected candidates will begin training at specialised academies:
- IAS officers: Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie
- IPS officers: National Police Academy, Hyderabad
- IFS officers: Diplomatic training programmes in New Delhi
The probation and training period generally lasts around two years, focusing on practical governance, field exposure, and administrative skills.
