UPI services down? Many users report outage while making payments online

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services suffered a major nationwide outage on Thursday, disrupting transactions for many users.

At around 8:30 pm, there were around nearly 200 incidents of people reporting issues with UPI on Downdetector, a website that collates status reports from various sources to track outages. The website reported that 61% of the users faced troubles in making the payments, while 30% were not able to transfer funds and 9% were not able to use the app.



The number of transactions through the popular Unified Payments Interface (UPI) touched a record high of 19.47 billion in July, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

In terms of value, it was Rs 25.08 lakh crore, the second highest after Rs 25.14 lakh crore recorded in May. In terms of volume, the last highest number was 18.67 billion reported in May, which declined to 18.39 billion in June with transaction amount Rs 24.03 lakh crore.
