An 11-year-old boy sustained severe burn injuries after he was allegedly thrown into a burning tandoor during a wedding function in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district, police said on Friday, reports PTI. The child has been referred to a medical college in Lucknow, where his condition is reported to be stable.

The incident took place on the night of April 15 in Malauli Gosai village under the Chhawani police station limits. According to police sources, the victim, identified as Chaman alias Amar, is a resident of Durjanpur village in Gonda and was visiting his maternal grandparents in Basti.

He had accompanied his grandmother to attend a relative’s wedding when the incident occurred.

How many 'rasgullas are too many?

Police told PTI the incident was triggered after the catering contractor became angry with the child for repeatedly taking rasgullas from the food counter. The accused allegedly first threatened the boy and then picked him up and placed him on a burning tandoor.

During the struggle that followed, the child reportedly lost balance and fell into the oven. Family members rushed to his aid after hearing his screams and managed to pull him out, but not before he suffered serious burns from his face down to his waist.

Medical treatment and condition

The injured child was initially taken to Ayodhya Medical College for treatment before being referred to a medical facility in Lucknow due to the severity of his injuries. Police said his condition is currently stable.
