Two sisters in Uttar Pradesh, aged 16 and 32, allegedly murdered their 60-year-old father when he was sleeping at their house in a village in Muzaffarnagar district. The sisters drugged their family before the elder sister slit their sleeping father's throat. Police said the younger sister held her father's legs tight as the elder one slit his throat with a kitchen knife, reports Times of India's Mohd Dilshad. The sisters were upset after enduring years of discrimination and taunts between sons and daughters in the family, the TOI report said.

The two sisters had been planning to kill their father, a farmer by profession, for the past few days. On Sunday night, seeing the right opportunity, they mixed sedatives with the food and served it to their family members, including their mother, police said. When the father fell asleep, the sisters murdered him.

The body was found lying in a pool of blood early on Monday morning. Police arrived and sent the body for a post-mortem and the two daughters were detained for questioning within two hours of the investigation. During questioning, they admitted to the crime, police stated.

SP (rural) Aditya Bansal told TOI, "During questioning, the two daughters stated that they were distressed over their father's behaviour towards them, and alleged that he treated his son and daughters differently. They also said he frequently scolded them and taunted them for staying at home, remaining unmarried and not doing any work."

A case under BNS section 103 (murder) has been registered at Bhopa police station and the two accused were arrested. They were presented before a court which remanded them in judicial custody. Police said two strips of sleeping pills and the murder weapon were recovered. The blood-stained clothes of the elder daughter were found hidden in a pile of fodder, he said.
