Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an increase in pensions for 1.06 crore (10.6 million) beneficiaries under the state’s social pension schemes. Speaking during the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Assembly on Friday, the Chief Minister said that funds for the hike have been allocated in the Budget and that detailed information will be shared during the budget debate.

UP Scholarship update

The Widow Pension Scheme (Nirashrit Mahila Pension Yojana) scheme covers the elderly, persons with disabilities, and destitute women. Before 2017, beneficiaries received ₹300 per month as disability pension and ₹500 per month under other categories. After coming to power, the Yogi government raised the amount to ₹1,000 per month. In its 2022 election manifesto, the government had promised to increase the pension to ₹1,500 per month, and the Chief Minister has now announced this enhancement. However, the exact details of the revised amount will be clarified during the budget discussion.

Currently, around 67.50 lakh people receive old-age pensions, 38.50 lakh women benefit under the destitute pension scheme, and about 11 lakh people receive disability pensions in the state.


UP Scholarship: How will the women receive the pension?

According to a report in Amar Ujala, the funds are deposited directly into the bank accounts of women beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh o maintain transparency. The UP government is likely to release another instalment by the end of February. Its aim is to ensure that no eligible woman misses out on the benefits of the scheme.

Eligibility

Women who meet the criteria can apply online to avail themselves of the assistance. To qualify, the applicant must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh, and her or her family’s annual income should not exceed ₹3 lakh. Additionally, the scheme applies to women whose husbands have passed away, among other eligibility conditions.

How to apply for UP Widow pension scheme

To apply for the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Widow Pension Scheme (Nirashrit Mahila Pension Yojana) online, visit the official SSPY portal. Applicants must first register as new users, then provide their personal information, bank details, and income particulars. They also need to upload the necessary documents, including the husband’s death certificate, age proof, bank passbook, and a photograph. Eligible women — who are state residents, above 18 years of age, and living below the poverty line — can receive ₹1,000 per month under the scheme.

How to Apply Online for UP Widow Pension

Visit the Official Portal: Go to the Unified Social Pension Portal of Uttar Pradesh at sspy-up.gov.in.

Choose the Scheme: Click on “Nirashrit Mahila Pension” (Widow Pension Scheme).

Apply Online: Select the “Apply Online” option.

Upload Documents: Upload a passport-size photograph along with scanned copies of the required documents listed below.

UP Scholarship: Eligibility Criteria

Age: The applicant must be a woman aged 18 years or above.

Residence: Must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Marital Status: Must be a widow, not remarried, and without a stable source of income.

Income: Should belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

Other Benefits: Must not be receiving any other pension from the government.
