According to the TOI report, Mohammed Mehraj was sleeping with his wife and two children in a tin-shed when he was murdered on Saturday night. According to NDTV, the victim's wife Ruhi, allegedly staged a drama of being unconscious when the murder took place. NDTV reported that Ruhi allegedly stayed in the house the entire night and slept next to the body along with her two children.
According to police investigation, Ruhi had allegedly been in an illicit relationship with her sister's brother-in-law, Mohammad Farmaan, for nearly five years. Ruhi and Mohammad Mehraj had frequent fights with each other as he opposed the relationship.

Villagers reported that the loud DJ music from nearby wedding celebrations may have drowned out any cries for help. On Saturday night, Mehraj was allegedly sedated, tied to the cot on which he was sleeping, and murdered with a sharp weapon. The assailants reportedly slit his throat first and then inflicted injuries on his hands and legs. Preliminary investigation indicates that the couple had been living separately within the same house, and the victim was allegedly being denied food by his wife.
Superintendent of police Amit Kumar Anand told TOI, "Three persons, including Ruhi, her lover Mohammad Farmaan and his friend Adnaan Ahmad, were arrested and sent to jail on Monday.." "The accused have confessed to their crime," SP Amit Kumar Anand said.
