UP horror: 16-year-old Dalit boy kidnapped at gunpoint, stripped naked and assaulted in Bareilly; entire act recorded on camera

A 16-year-old Dalit boy was allegedly kidnapped, stripped naked and beaten following an argument on social media in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, police said. While police have nabbed three persons after the assault, including two minors, two other accused in the case are on the run, reports TOI's Krishna Chaudhary. Though the incident took place on the night of December 31, a video of the assault surfaced on Saturday.

A police investigation revealed that the accused's resentment arose from a dispute after the victim allegedly made some comments on social media. The accused claimed that the Dalit teen had made objectionable remarks about the sister of one of them. Police said the victim — son of a daily wage labourer — and the accused lived in the same neighbourhood, according to the TOI report.

Dalit teen abducted at gunpoint

The victim's mother in a police complaint said her son was out for a walk when the bike-borne accused kidnapped him at gunpoint, took him to an isolated spot near a pond. Police said the accused brandished knives and firearms, stripped the youth and assaulted him brutally. During the assault, the accused allegedly recorded the entire act to threaten and humiliate him further. The boy managed to escape and reached home, and narrated his ordeal to his family. He was taken to hospital and was discharged after treatment.


Circle officer (CO) Ashutosh Shivam said an FIR was registered under BNS sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 191(2) (rioting), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 67B of the IT Act and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act.

Birthday party turns violent in Bareilly

In a separate incident, a birthday party at a cafe in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly turned controversial after a group of right-wing activists barged in and gate-crashed the gathering, alleging "love jihad". Two Muslim youth were among the party attendees, which was interrupted by members of the Bajrang Dal who stormed into the cafe and reportedly thrashed one of the attendees. As the situation escalated, police got involved and fined two Muslim youths, who were among the 10 attendees of the party. The staffer of the restaurant was also fined for “disturbing the peace”, news agency PTI reported.

Bajrang Dal members thrashed one of the two Muslim youth, accusing them of ‘love jihad’, the report said. A girl who tried to intervene was also thrashed, the Times of India reported. A video of the incident purportedly showing the activists creating ruckus inside the cafe was shared on social media.
