Unruly aircraft passenger bites fellow flyer, tries to fight everyone aboard American Airlines flight

An unruly aircraft passenger allegedly turned an American Airlines flight into a chaotic scene on Sunday after biting a fellow traveler and attempting to fight others as the plane descended toward Philadelphia, reports The New York Post. The incident happened aboard a flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, prompting the pilot to request police and emergency medical personnel to meet the aircraft upon landing.

Chaos erupts as flight approaches Philadelphia

The disturbance reportedly began while the aircraft was nearing Philadelphia. Audio of radio communications obtained by CBS captured the pilot describing the severity of the situation to air traffic controllers.


“He’s trying to fight everybody,” the pilot said while requesting immediate assistance on the ground. As the situation escalated, crew members and passengers were forced to deal with the aggressive traveler while the flight continued its descent.

Passenger allegedly bites another traveler

The pilot later provided additional details about the incident, indicating that the passenger had become physically violent.

“I don’t know … if he’s hallucinating or whatever, but he just bit a passenger, and he’s trying to fight everybody,” the pilot said in the recorded communication.

The remarks suggested that the crew believed the individual may have been experiencing a mental health episode, the report suggested, although the exact circumstances behind the outburst have not been officially confirmed.

Emergency response awaited plane on landing

Given the passenger's alleged behavior, the pilot requested that law enforcement officers and emergency medical teams be ready when the aircraft touched down in Philadelphia.

Authorities reportedly met the flight after landing. No immediate information was released about possible injuries or whether the passenger was taken into custody.

The bizarre episode is the latest in a growing number of high-profile passenger disturbances aboard commercial flights.

Earlier this month, a passenger allegedly bit a police officer who was attempting to remove her from an aircraft after a dispute over an excess-baggage fee.

In another case, a Frontier Airlines flight traveling from Puerto Rico to Chicago was forced to make an emergency landing in Miami after an allegedly unruly passenger created a dangerous situation onboard.
