University prank goes viral: Girl emerges from suitcase in controversial video

A video from O P Jindal University in Sonipat is going viral on internet in which a girl can be seen emerging from a suitcase, reminiscent of an illusionist's act. The footage sparked discussions on social media, with viewers suggesting it was an attempt to smuggle someone into the hostel.

Despite no visible male presence in the Saturday morning video, university sources confirmed that a person had gained unauthorised access to the female accommodation, raising concerns about security protocols.

The incident, which occurred in the girls' hostel, involved students transporting their friend inside a large suitcase as a joke. Security personnel spotted unusual activity on CCTV and discovered a female student inside when they investigated.



Anjoo Mohun, the university's communications director, stated: "This was a prank, entirely confined to the premises of the girls' hostel. The suitcase was carried into a public area within the hostel, where security personnel monitoring CCTV footage noticed suspicious activity and intervened. When they opened the suitcase, they found a girl inside."

The university administration issued show-cause notices to the participants, requiring them to face a disciplinary committee. They released a statement emphasising their commitment to student safety and requested the public to avoid sharing unconfirmed information.

Social media reactions varied significantly. Some criticised institutional restrictions on couples, whilst others approached it humorously. One user wrote: "The length that people need to go to just to get some private time with their loved ones in this country is so dehumanizing." Another commented: "Itna bada risk kaun leta hai?"

This event drew parallels to a February 2022 incident at Manipal Institute of Technology, where a similar attempt was thwarted when hostel staff noticed an unusually heavy suitcase.

The university administration maintains their focus on student welfare whilst addressing this security breach seriously, despite no injuries occurring during the incident.
