Incident Details
United Airlines Flight 762 departed from Miami International Airport at 5:38 PM with routine expectations for its Newark destination. However, the atmosphere onboard abruptly shifted when a female passenger, apparently inspired by a character from "Scarface," initiated a series of alarming actions. Cellphone footage, acquired by local media, vividly captured the unfolding chaos.
Escalation of Events
The situation intensified when the irate passenger became physically aggressive. She lashed out by biting a male flight attendant's shirt, tearing pieces of fabric and creating a scene that escalated further when she verbally attacked other passengers with profanity-laced insults.
Passenger's Behavior
The disruptive behavior continued as the woman, who remains unidentified, directed explicit language towards fellow passengers. "Don’t come on f–king United Airlines, these people have an attitude problem, they don’t do their f–king jobs," she vocally criticized during the altercation.
Emergency Response and Landing
In response to the escalating situation, the flight crew made the decision to divert the aircraft to Orlando International Airport. The plane landed at 7:13 PM, approximately three and a half hours after its departure from Miami. Law enforcement officials were present to escort the disruptive passenger off the plane, a moment met with applause from relieved passengers.
Airline Confirmation and Statement
United Airlines promptly acknowledged the incident in a statement released the following day. "United flight 762 from Miami to Newark stopped in Orlando on Tuesday evening after a passenger became aggressive and disruptive," the statement read. "Our flight attendants worked to de-escalate the situation and protect other customers. After landing in Orlando, law enforcement met the flight, and the passenger was removed."
