Ukraine shows horrific before-after images of soldier released by Russians after 4 months of torture

Shocking before and after images of a captive Ukrainian soldier, who was recently freed by Russian Army, have surfaced on social media. The soldier, Mykhailo Dianov, was captured during the Mariupol siege earlier this year.
He was one of 205 Ukrainian prisoners of war released recently.

The Ukrainian defence ministry shared the horrific images of Dianov on Twitter calling him one of the lucky ones to survive despite injuries on his face and arms. In contrast to an earlier image, the horrific recent picture shows a frail and emaciated Mykhailo Dianov.



“Mykhailo Dianov is among the fortunate ones; in contrast with some of his fellow POWs, he survived Russian captivity,” the ministry said.

“This is how Russia ‘adheres’ to the Geneva Conventions. This is how Russia continues the shameful legacy of Nazism,” it added.

According to a report in The Telegraph, Dianov was captured by the Russian army earlier this year during a fight in Mariupol. Dianov was among the 2,000 soldiers who fought to defend the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol from Russia, but were defeated and captured in mid-May.

As per reports, Dianov faced four months of torture in the Russian prison camps. Dianov sister, Alona Lavrushko, reportedly informed that Dianov is currently undergoing treatment for serious condition in Kyiv Military Hospital and will require long-term treatment.

She said shrapnel in his brother's arm was pulled out "without anaesthetic, without anything, using rusty pliers".
The arm is said to be unhealed and missing 4cm of bone due to the inhumane conditions he faced in captivity. She said Dianov's arm is unhealed and 4cm of bone is missing in his arm due to the inhumane conditions he faced in Russian captivity.

Dainov is waiting for a surgery but his sister said said he needs to gain weight before the surgery as he can't be operated on in this condition.
