Poommeliers
A gut-health consultancy service in the UK, Feel Complete, is offering to pay trainees with a keen sense of smell Rs 1.48 lakh to smell poop, in an effort to break the taboo around the topic. The company plans to train five people to become the world's first 'Poommeliers', who are experts in the sight and smell of fecal matter. The trainees will receive the full amount, but only one person will eventually earn the title of the world's first Poommelier and run the online Poo Clinic.

CEO Aaron Providence said, "Being a poo expert might not be top of everyone's list, but finding and training the world's first Poommelier is a way for us to take a serious issue like gut health and have a little fun with it, we're excited to be taking on this project and can't wait to see who's up for the challenge!"

Who can apply for the job?

People aged 18 and over who are available to commit to the six-month training schedule starting in March 2023 and have an excellent sense of smell can apply for the job by filling out a simple form on the Feel Complete website.

Here is some basic information about poop provided by the consultancy that can help you to analyse your daily excreta:

The appearance of faeces can vary depending on what a person eats. For example, foods like beetroot, and green, and red vegetables may show their colours in poop. However, any red blood in the stool is a major red flag that requires immediate attention. This could indicate bowel cancer or other health issues.

Black and tarry stools may indicate a higher gut bleed, while very pale, chalky-colored stools may indicate a bile duct obstruction. Foul-smelling faeces may be a sign of infection, gastrointestinal bleeding, or a poor diet. Doctors use a scale called the Bristol Stool Chart to determine the consistency of feces, with Types 3 and 4 being considered optimal, as they are easily passed and sausage-like. The colour of faeces can also provide clues to possible health problems, with mid-brown being the typical colour of healthy feces.
