UIDAI to launch new Aadhaar app: Key features
The new Aadhaar app introduces a more privacy-focused approach compared to the older system, which often revealed a user's complete identity details during verification. The updated version limits the information shared, enhancing user control and security. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), an Aadhaar official said the new Aadhaar app offers a faster, safer, and smarter digital experience, featuring secure QR code-based Aadhaar sharing and other advanced privacy-centric tools.Aadhaar Verification Gets Faster and Smarter
The Aadhaar authentication process has been upgraded with new verification options, reducing dependence on the traditional SMS-based OTP system. Instead of relying on a single method, users can now choose from multiple authentication layers for a smoother and more secure experience.Key changes include:
Face authentication
QR code-based verification
The QR-based feature is expected to make identity checks quicker at hotels, hospitals, government offices, and other service counters by reducing paperwork and manual verification steps.
More Control Over Your Aadhaar Data
The new Aadhaar app gives users greater control over their identity and biometric information, offering privacy features that were not available in earlier versions.New security features include:
Option to lock fingerprint, face, and iris authentication data
Better control over when biometric verification can be used
Added protection against unauthorised use of Aadhaar details, especially on shared or public devices
These updates are designed to improve both convenience and security while giving users more say over how their personal information is accessed and shared.
How to Set Up the New Aadhaar App
Getting started with the new Aadhaar app is simple, but it includes multiple verification steps to improve security and protect user data.Follow these steps:
Download the official Aadhaar app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Choose your preferred language.
Enter the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
Verify the OTP sent to your registered number.
