The registration process will be conducted online. Last year, applications for the June session had opened on April 16.
The UGC NET is held twice annually, in June and December, to determine eligibility of candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes in universities and colleges across India. For the December 2025 cycle, the examination was conducted across 85 subjects. Candidates are advised to apply in the subject of their postgraduation.
Who can apply for UGC NET
Students from disciplines such as Humanities, Social Sciences, Languages, and Computer Science and Applications can apply for the examination if they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria.Candidates must have secured at least 55 per cent marks in their master’s degree or equivalent examination. A relaxation to 50 per cent is applicable for candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, PwBD, and third gender categories.
Applicants who are currently pursuing their master’s degree or have appeared in the final year examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply.
Candidates who have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree programme with at least 75 per cent aggregate marks, or its equivalent grade, can also apply. Those in the final semester or year of such programmes are eligible as well.
Provisional eligibility conditions
Candidates still pursuing their master’s degree will be granted provisional admission. Their eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship or Assistant Professor will be confirmed only after they secure the required marks in their qualifying examination.Such candidates must complete their master’s degree within two years from the date of the NET result with the prescribed percentage. Failing to do so will lead to disqualification.
