Four teenagers were killed and six others injured after two cars collided on the old Ahmedabad bypass near Nela Talab in Udaipur district early on Saturday, police told TOI.

The impact of the collision was severe, with both vehicles completely destroyed and several occupants trapped inside. Emergency responders had to cut open the mangled cars to recover the bodies and rescue the injured.

Police identified the deceased as Mohammad Ayan (17) of Murshid Nagar, Adil Qureshi (14) of Barkat Colony, Sher Mohammad (19) of Mallatalai, and Gulam Khwaja (17) of Savina. Two others travelling with them, Wasim (20) and Mohammad Kaif (19), sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

According to Ajayraj Singh, station house officer of Savina police station, the group had gathered to celebrate Ayan’s birthday on January 16. After attending a Mahfil-e-Milad near Nela Talab, they decided to go out for tea. As their car entered the main road, it collided with another vehicle travelling along the bypass.

The occupants of the second car — Mahipal Jat (48), Rajbala (45), Rajesh (26) and Karmveer Singh (24) — were travelling from Rajgarh in Churu district to Vapi in Gujarat. All four were injured in the collision.

A video that surfaced after the crash has raised questions about the moments leading up to the accident. The footage shows the car carrying the teenagers travelling at speeds of up to 120 kmph shortly before the collision. The driver is seen smoking while loud music plays, with a video displayed on a screen next to him.

In the recording, a passenger can be heard urging the driver to slow down, repeatedly saying “bhai, dheere karde” moments before the crash. Police said the video is being examined as part of the investigation to assess whether speeding and distracted driving contributed to the accident.
