UAE to host 2022 Asia Cup: Stage set for another India-Pakistan blockbuster

As expected, the Asia Cup 2022 will now be played in UAE due to the ongoing crisis in Sri Lanka. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly confirmed on Thursday that the much-anticipated tournament will now be played in UAE.

As of now, the tournament is scheduled to take place from August 27 to September 11 in T20 format. Six teams will take part in the tournament. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are the five confirmed teams. The sixth team or qualifier would be announced soon.




In the previous edition of Asia Cup, which was played in 2018, India lifted the trophy by beating Bangladesh in an exciting final. Team India has also won the Asia Cup maximum times with 7 trophies to its name. In 2016, the Asia Cup was held for the first time in T20 format.

The major attraction of the tournament would be the India-Pakistan clash and we can expect India to send its best possible X1 to the tournament. The Men in Blue would be also looking forward to avenge India's 10-wicket defeat to arch-rival Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup last year.

Though it hasn't been confirmed yet, according to some media reports, India and Pakistan will be placed in one group while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be in the second group.

India's possible squad for the Asia Cup 2022 could also feature the top stars of India cricket including: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah.
