Twitter will no longer show on what device tweet is posted, announces Elon Musk

Elon Musk has announced that users will now not be able to see on what device the tweet is posted. Musk called it a “waste of screen space and compute.”

Twitter has been undergoing several transformations, ever since billionaire Elon Musk took over the microblogging platform.

In one such recent change, Twitter announced that the platform will no longer show whether the tweet was posted from iPhone, an android device, or even the Twitter web.

Musk shared the announcement on Twitter by sharing a tweet from Pubity and captioning it as “Hallelujah!!” (sic).

Musk last month had called adding what device a tweet was made on a “waste of screen space and compute.”

He while responding to a Twitter user wrote, “And we will finally stop adding what device a tweet was written on (waste of screen space & compute) below every tweet. Literally no one even knows why we did that …” (sic).

Several users are appreciating this move but it didn't stop people from sharing memes reminding them of the time when Samsung tweeted from their official handle about their ‘Galaxy Unpacked Event’ from an iPhone.

The new Twitter chief who had earlier suspended accounts of several prominent journalists only to restore them later said that “Twitter will now be incorporating ‘mute’ and ‘block’ signals for Blue Verified.” Musk had conducted a Twitter poll where the majority of the users wanted the suspended accounts to be restored immediately. The suspended accounts included journalists from the Washington Post, CNN, and the New York Times.

Musk also resumed selling the Twitter Blue premium offering, which allows users to have a blue verification badge beside their name after it was stopped for a few weeks after complaints of impersonation of well-known accounts came to light. A new user now needs to pay USD 8 for the Twitter Blue subscription.

Meanwhile, reports claim that two ex-Twitter employees, Alphonzo Phonz Terrell and DeVaris, who were let go by Musk earlier, are building an alternative to the microblogging platform and are calling it ‘Spill’. Terrell served as the global head of social and editorial for Twitter until he was relieved of his duties by the new Twitter chief.
