TVK has finally crossed the majority mark in Tamil Nadu’s hung Assembly, as per TOI, securing the support needed to form the next government. After emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats (reduced to 107 after Vijay vacated one constituency), the party received backing from Congress (5 seats), VCK (2 seats), IUML (2 seats), CPI (2 seats) and CPM (2 seats), taking its total strength to 120 in the 234-member house. This breakthrough marks a historic political shift, ending the decades-long dominance of DMK and AIADMK in the state.

How TVK Achieved the Majority

Congress was the first to extend support to TVK with its five MLAs, taking the tally to 112. However, the alliance still needed six more seats.

After intense negotiations, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) formally announced their support following internal meetings.


CPM state leader P Shanmugam confirmed receiving a formal letter from Vijay seeking support, citing constitutional convention that favours inviting the single largest party in a hung assembly.
