TTD gets historic Rs 97 crore in donations in a day: Why thousands of devotees rushed to donate before midnight deadline

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has recorded its highest-ever single-day donation collection, with devotees contributing nearly Rs 97 crore in just one day after the temple trust announced changes to donor privileges.

According to TTD officials, 2,460 devotees from India and abroad donated a combined Rs 96.98 crore, setting a new record for both the total amount received and the number of individual donors in a single day.

The surge came after TTD announced that revised donor benefits would come into effect from midnight, prompting thousands of devotees to make contributions before the deadline to retain the existing privileges.

Why did donations surge?

TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu said the unprecedented response followed the trust board's decision to rationalise donor privileges for future contributions across donation slabs ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore.

The revised donor benefits were announced at around 2 pm on Tuesday, with TTD clarifying that devotees who completed their donations before midnight would continue to enjoy the existing benefits.

The announcement created a 10-hour window during which devotees across the world rushed to make online and offline donations.

Record-breaking collection in just 10 hours

According to TTD, the temple trust received donations worth Rs 96.98 crore from 2,460 individual donors before the deadline.

Officials said this was the highest single-day collection from individual donors in the history of TTD.

The donations were made through multiple channels, including:

• Official TTD online portal
• Bank transfers and wire payments
• Donation counters at TTD offices
• Most donations came through online channels

TTD data shows that the overwhelming majority of devotees preferred digital payment methods.

Of the total donors:

• 2,354 contributed through the official online portal and banking channels.
• 106 made donations at TTD's offline donation counters.

The figures highlight the growing use of digital platforms for religious donations.

Donation amounts ranged from Rs 1 lakh to over Rs 1 crore

Preliminary data released by TTD shows a wide range of contributions.

According to officials:

• 1,212 devotees donated between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
• Another large group contributed between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 25 lakh.
• Two devotees donated Rs 1 crore each through the official TTD online portal before the deadline.

TTD says devotees responded to revised donor privileges

TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary said the record collection reflected both the deep faith of devotees and the urgency created by the upcoming revision of donor benefits.

According to the temple administration, the combination of strong religious sentiment and the limited time available before the new rules took effect resulted in the largest single-day inflow of donations from individual devotees in the trust's history.

How many registered donors does TTD have?

TTD officials said the trust had approximately 1.98 lakh registered donors as of 26 June 2026.

Following the announcement of the revised donor privileges, another 2,450-plus devotees joined the donor list by making qualifying contributions before the midnight deadline.
