Trump gets a home in Bihar? Fake residential certificate from Samastipur goes viral, Congress slams Election Commission

A residence certificate was allegedly forged in the name of US President Donald Trump in Bihar’s Samastipur district. Officials have confirmed that a case has been registered, and investigations are underway.

According to Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Brajesh Kumar, someone tried to create a fake residential certificate using Trump’s name. “The investigation revealed tampering during the application process. The cyber cell has been informed, and an FIR will be registered soon,” he said on Wednesday.

The motive behind the act is still unclear, but it has raised serious concerns about the misuse of government systems.


Reacting to the bizarre incident, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala used the opportunity to highlight deeper problems with Bihar’s voter data management.

“Many might laugh this off, but it’s proof that the electoral roll revision in Bihar is a complete fraud,” he wrote on X. He accused the Election Commission of striking off 65 lakh voters from Bihar's rolls, calling it an “attack on electoral democracy.”

He urged people to “raise their voices” and stand up for democracy, adding that remaining silent in such a situation would be wrong.

This isn't Bihar’s first brush with certificate-related embarrassment.

Earlier in June, in what was dubbed the "Dog Babu" incident, a dog in Patna was issued a residential certificate. And just recently, a certificate application was submitted in Nawada under the name ‘Dogesh Babu’, complete with a dog’s photograph!

Following this, the Nawada District Magistrate has directed police to take strict action and launch a full investigation into how such an application was even accepted.
