TRS is now BRS: All about KCR's 'national party' Bharat Rashtra Samithi

Telangana's ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) on Wednesday changed its name to 'Bharat Rashtra Samiti' (BRS). A resolution changing the name was passed today.

Telangana's ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) on Wednesday changed its name to 'Bharat Rashtra Samiti' (BRS). This move on the day of Dussehra marks the party's foray into national politics. Here's all about the change of name by TRS.

  • A resolution changing the name from Telangana Rashtra Samiti to Bharat Rashtra Samiti was passed at the party's general body meeting in Hyderabad, reports said.
  • Party president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao read out the resolution and announced that the party's general body meet unanimously resolved to change the name from TRS to BRS.
  • Reports said the change was made exactly at 1:19 pm. considered an auspicious time. KCR is a strong believer in this.
  • TRS activists who gathered outside the party headquarters, the venue for the meeting, started celebrating soon after the announcement
  • Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and other JD(S) leaders and Tamil Nadu's VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, came to Hyderabad at the invitation of Rao for this function.
  • K Chandrasekhar Rao has already been saying he intends to take on PM Narendra Modi in the 2024 general elections and has been inviting other non-BJP parties to join hands with him.
  • He has been involved in a war of words with the BJP, which is pushing aggressively to gain ground in the southern state. He has also skipped a few functions of PM Narendra Modi in Hyderabad.

Despite the change of name, the status of K Chandrasekhar Rao's party is still that of a regional party. As per the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, to become a national party, the BRS needs to secure at least six per cent of the total votes in Lok Sabha elections or Assembly elections in four states, besides winning at least four seats in the Lok Sabha from any of these states.
