Trent Boult, the left-arm pacer from New Zealand, has expressed his strong desire to play in the ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in India later this year, despite giving up his national contract. Boult, along with two other New Zealand players, had decided to forego their national contracts last year to participate in various T20 leagues worldwide. However, the 33-year-old remains eager to represent his country in the prestigious World Cup tournament.

Although Boult has not been selected for the national team since the T20 World Cup last year, he continues to harbor aspirations of playing in the upcoming World Cup. While acknowledging his decision to give up his national contract, Boult emphasized his dedication to the sport, stating, "I've still got that big desire to play for New Zealand."

Boult shared his thoughts with ESPNcricinfo, saying, "We'll see how that unfolds: there's still a bit of movement in the landscape at the moment." He believes that New Zealand has a good chance of performing well in the ICC event, especially considering their close defeat in the 2019 World Cup final against England.

Boult expressed his admiration for the tournament, stating, "It's such a great tournament... One hundred percent, I've got that desire to be out there." Despite Kane Williamson's injury at the beginning of the IPL, Boult remains confident that his team's experience in Indian conditions will be advantageous. He highlighted the significance of players who have toured and gained experience across these conditions, emphasizing that their expertise cannot be replaced.

With the proliferation of cricket leagues worldwide, the cricket calendar has become busier than ever before. Boult, who participates in multiple leagues around the world, expressed curiosity about how the cricket calendar will evolve in the coming years. He described the current situation as an "interesting time" for both franchise and international cricket, acknowledging the ongoing developments and changes in the cricketing landscape.
