Tragic slaying in UP's Barabanki: Brother arrested with severed head of sister

An Uttar Pradesh village was witness to a heinous incident this week after a family dispute took a turn for the worse.

The village of Mithwara in the Fatehpur area of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki saw 22-year-old Riyaz was arrested by local police after he was spotted carrying the severed head of his 18-year-old sister, Aashifa.

The grim saga began with an argument between Riyaz and Aashifa, the latter having recently eloped with her partner, Chand Babu, who resided in the same village. Aashifa's actions provoked intense opposition from her brother, leading to frequent quarrels over the matter.


After Aashifa eloped from the househould, her family tracked her down, also reporting the incident to the police in the process. The complaint led to the arrest of Babu and the return of Aashifa.

As tensions escalatedb between the siblings, Riyaz took a dreadful and unthinkable step, ending his sister's life with a sharp weapon.

The authorities swiftly intervened and detained the young man while also recovering Aashifa's lifeless body. The police immediately conducted an autopsy and gathered essential evidence from the scene of the gruesome crime.

The village stands in disbelief and grief as they try to comprehend the brutal outcome of a dispute that had seemingly spiraled out of control. The loss of a young life has rocked the village.

Following Riyaz's arrest, police have filed a case against him. He's in custody, with the investigation in progress. Friday's incident has raked up the age-old issue of patriarchy, with the familial dispute a stark reminder of the lengths male figures will go to, in a bid to exert control over their families.
