Tragic javelin accident claims life of 15-year-old school boy in shocking sports mishap

A heartbreaking incident unfolded at INT English School in Purar, Goregaon, Mangaon taluka of Raigad district, as a 15-year-old school boy lost his life during a javelin practice session. The young victim, identified as Hujefa Daware from Dahivali Kond village in Mangaon taluka, tragically succumbed to a head injury inflicted by a fellow student's javelin throw.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 12:30 pm on Wednesday while the students were preparing for an outdoor sports competition. Atul Zende, additional SP of Raigad, stated in an interview with TOI, "Prima facie, we have registered an accidental death case. We have sought the CCTV footage of the school playground to ascertain how the fatal incident occurred."

According to the initial findings, Daware was participating in javelin throw practice for a taluka level competition. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when another student, at the far end of the playground, retrieved the javelin and threw it back.


Unaware of the impending danger, Daware had bent down to tie his shoelaces when the javelin struck him on the temple, near his left eye. The severity of the injury led to his immediate collapse, and he was rushed to Mangaon civic hospital. Tragically, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Bandu Pawar, a physical training (PT) teacher who was assigned the role of umpire for a volleyball competition, recounted the harrowing scene. "I rushed to the spot and found that Hujefa Daware had sustained grievous injury to his temple. The students, it appears, had not taken permission from the school management to practise javelin throw," he stated.
