Tomatina festival makes a comeback after two years, Spaniards 'paint it red'

Mad popular in India by the movie 'Zindagi Na Milegi Doabara,' Spain's Tomatina festival is an annual celebration where locals and tourists alike flinging tomatoes at each other.

The Spanish event is back after a two-year COVID-19-induced hiatus, with renewed vigour. In what is the 75th edition of the historic celebration, people are celebrating the patron saints of Valencia - Luis Bertran and the Virgin Mary.

Each year, thousands of people flood the town of Bunol, where multiple trucks unload over-ripe tomatoes that are then flung around in what is supposed to be the largest food fight in the world.


This year 130 tonnes of tomatoes were used, unloaded in six trucks; the fight is followed by festivities, including concerts and contests.

Per tradition, social media is also filled with people celebrating the festival.
