Petrol, Diesel Price Today May 24: Check fuel rates in Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, Faridabad, Bangalore, Gurgaon and other cities

Petrol and diesel prices climbed again on Saturday as global crude oil rates stayed under pressure due to the Iran conflict and growing worries around the Strait of Hormuz. The latest increase pushed petrol in Delhi close to the Rs 100 mark, while diesel prices also moved sharply higher. Amid recent fuel rate hikes, petrol and diesel fuel consumers are expecting more hikes as tensions continue in the Middle East. State-owned oil companies raised petrol prices by 87 paise to 91 paise per litre and also increased compressed natural gas (CNG) prices by Re 1 per kg. This is the third recent increase in CNG rates, taking the total hike to Rs 4 per kg in just a few days.
In a relief to consumers, the petrol and diesel prices have not increased today May 24.

Diesel price today May 24

Diesel prices also recorded another jump across major cities. In Delhi, diesel now costs Rs 92.49 per litre. Mumbai’s diesel rate stood at Rs 95.02 per litre, while Chennai and Kolkata both reported diesel prices above Rs 97 per litre.

Petrol and diesel prices hiked for the third time on Saturday

In Delhi, petrol prices were hiked to Rs 99.51 per litre, up from Rs 98.64 earlier. Diesel prices in the national capital also rose to Rs 92.49 per litre from Rs 91.58. The latest revision has taken the overall increase in petrol and diesel prices to nearly Rs 5 per litre in less than 10 days. Oil marketing companies had restarted fuel price revisions on May 15 after a long pause. Petrol and diesel prices were increased by Rs 3 per litre each on May 15 and by another 90 paise per litre on May 19.

The fresh round of hikes is expected to increase transportation expenses and could add pressure on household budgets as fuel costs impact daily essentials and logistics.

Why petrol, diesel prices are rising in India?

The recent increases come as international crude oil markets remain volatile due to geopolitical tensions involving Iran and concerns over disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil shipping route. Rising crude prices generally lead to higher fuel costs in India as the country imports a large share of its oil needs.

The continuing upward trend in fuel rates has also triggered fears of higher inflation, especially in transport-heavy sectors such as food delivery, goods movement and public transportation.
