The cane toad was named, "Toadzilla" and was found by the park rangers at the Conway National Park in Queensland on 12th January.
The cane toad is an invasive species and they pose a significant threat to Australia's ecosystem. Toadzilla weighed in at 2.7kg. The Guinness World Records listed the largest toad at 2.65 kg, a 1991 record set by a Swedish pet.
Unfortunately, the toad was euthanised due to its “ecological impact” — the usual fate for the toads across Australia and the animal's body was donated to the Queensland Museum for research purposes.
The cane toads was first introduced to Australia in 1935 to control the population of cane beetles and other pests but owing to their population explosion and with no natural predators they soon become a threat to other Australian species.
