TNPL 2023: History made by getting 18 runs in 1 ball

In the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 match between Chepauk Super Gillies and Salem Spartans, an incredible scene played out as 18 runs were scored off of a single legal delivery.

The Spartans' captain, Abhishek Tanwar, threw the last ball that was legal in the 20th over of the innings, but in the process, he gave up 18 runs.

In the TNPL 2022 season, Tanwar had the most wickets, but he struggled to find his rhythm when playing the Super Gillies. The opposition team put a massive total of 217/5 on the board thanks to the 18-run last ball, scoring 26 runs in the final over.

• Tanwar bowled a no-ball that the batter was bowled on with 19.5 overs remaining on the clock.

• Another no-ball that was hit for a six to bring the total to 8 runs was the next ball after the next ball.

• The batters scored two runs, bringing the total to 11, on the following ball, which was also a no-ball.

• The next ball turned out to be a wide delivery, bringing the total to 12.

• The final delivery, which was this time legal, was also hit for a six, bringing the total up to 18 runs.

"I must accept responsibility for the final over; as a senior bowler, four no-balls were disappointing. After the game, Salem Spartans captain Tanwar acknowledged that he was to blame for that extremely pricey over, saying that the wind did not help because it played a significant role.

The Spartans could only muster 165/9 in response, losing the game by a significant margin of 52 runs.
