TNEA Counselling 2022 deferred following delay in NEET results

The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, TNEA Counseling 2022 for the General Category which was scheduled to take place today has now been postponed. The counselling which was supposed to begin at 10 am today was delayed because of the delayed NEET Results. According to the official website, the online counselling for the general category will begin later, on tneaonline.org.

State Higher Education Minister K Pondmudy informed yesterday that the TNEA committee will conduct the counselling two days after the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET 2022 result are announced. The results were earlier expected to come by 21st August but since the delay, the committee has decided to defer the counselling.

The decision was taken to prevent the general category seats from going vacant. The minister stated that in the last few years, students would join prestigious engineering colleges and then leave after the NEET results are declared for an MBBS seat. As a result, many seats in top colleges like Anna University lay vacant.


1.58 lakh students are eligible to participate in the counselling and the Engineering admission process does not have a second round of counselling. The admission process has been deferred to ensure maximum students are able to get seats.
