TNEA 2026 Counselling Starting Date
The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 counselling process is scheduled to begin in the third week of May 2026.A senior official from the Higher Education Department confirmed that enrolment for engineering admissions will start from the third week of May, once the Class 12 board results are announced on May 8.
Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission 2026 Process
Admissions to B.Tech courses in Tamil Nadu will be based purely on Class 12 merit. There is no separate entrance exam for TNEA.The entire process is conducted through a single-window online counselling system by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Anna University.
Number of Seats and Participating Colleges
Tamil Nadu offers around two lakh engineering seats across more than 400 engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University. Last year, over three lakh students from Tamil Nadu and other states participated in the counselling.This year, officials expect higher application numbers as many colleges have increased seats in high-demand courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Data Science, and Robotics.

The process includes registration, random number generation, certificate verification, rank list publication, choice filling, and seat allotment.
TNEA 2026 Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for TNEA 2026, candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. General category candidates need a minimum of 45% aggregate marks, while BC/BCM candidates require 40%, MBC/DNC candidates 40%, and SC/SCA/ST candidates need 35% marks. Candidates must also be Indian citizens and should have studied Class 8 to 12 in Tamil Nadu or meet the nativity criteria prescribed by the government.How TNEA Admissions Work
Candidates must register online on the official TNEA portal.After registration, a random number is issued for tie-breaking. Document verification is done at Tamil Nadu Facilitation Centres (TFCs). Seats are allotted based on Class 12 marks, community reservation, and candidate choices.
