'Thoda casual hai' meme by Railway Ministry sparks internet frenzy

In an effort to enhance awareness about railway safety, the Indian Railways Ministry is getting creative on social media. They've joined the meme trend and shared one with the caption "Baithne ka tarika thoda casual hai," which means "The way of sitting is a bit casual."

The meme photo vividly shows passengers sitting on the train doorway, highlighting the dangerous behaviour. The accompanying message is clear: "Be a #ResponsibleRailYatri and do not travel while sitting at the door."

The "thoda casual hai.." phrase became popular from a funny video featuring IAS interviewer Vijender Chauhan. In the video, he humorously comments on how a candidate is sitting casually, turning it into a widely shared meme. The Railways Ministry took this viral trend and used it to address a serious issue – the safety of passengers on trains.


This post not only got over 450k views but also got people talking. People on social media shared their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions for making railway services better.

Some users specifically pointed out issues related to overcrowding and questioned the allocation of resources, such as spending on selfie booths at railway stations. "Spending on a selfie booth at the railway station is unnecessary," a user said.

Others expressed, "Then don't overcrowd the train. Why issue tickets in the first place if the capacity of trains is a concern."
