The Singapore Sling also known as 1915 is a renowned drink served at the historic Raffles Hotel in Singapore.

The drink reportedly brings Rs 2.38 lakh ($30,000) in revenue every day to the hotel, with sales of around 1,000 drinks per day at a price of approximately Rs 2,400 ($29) each, according to a report in news.com.au.

After adding the service fees and taxes, each drink cost about $34.

The cocktail was created by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon in 1915, hence the name. It is also considered the national drink of Singapore. The drink is served in a tall glass with a pineapple slice and contains gin, pineapple juice, lime juice, curaçao, and Bénédictine. The signature light-pink color of the drink comes from the addition of grenadine and cherry liqueur.

According to the hotel’s website, the Singapore Sling was originally designed to allow women to consume alcohol publicly by disguising it as fruit juice.

Even after many years have passed, the legendary drink is now well-known and also the subject of many recipe recreations on the internet.

The hotel has been visited by notable figures such as Queen Elizabeth II, John Wayne, Liz Taylor, and Michael Jackson.
