This Odisha woman ran a full marathon in the UK wearing a Sambalpuri saree

41-year-old Madhusmita Jena Das, an Odia living in the United Kingdom, has gone viral after she ran 42.5 kilometers as part of a Manchester marathon, all while wearing a saree.

Das wore a beautiful red Sambalpuri saree and orange sneakers to complete the run in four hours and fifty minutes. Her achievement was shared on Twitter by multiple users, including 'Friends of India Soc Intl UK.'



In the tweet, the user said "Sambalpur you have a distinct inclusive cultural identity that arises from the strong association of the tribal and folk communities which have been coexisting for centuries. This is a tough phase let’s keep up with peace and harmony," attaching pictures of Das running the marathon.

Meanwhile, a tweet from another user attached a picture of her timings for the race

One user replied to these tweets saying, "'Wow Such an adorable Pic to see. This how we should show our culture to the World, All those who are ready to wear foreign attire please learn from her.''

While another extolled her achievement saying: "A fantastic achievement for an Odia marathoner from the UK, Madhusmita Jena, who ran Manchester marathon yesterday 16 Apr “wearing a Sari”. Running a full marathon of 42.2 km is a hard task; running it in a sari makes it very very difficult. But Madhu ran the full distance.''
