Since the launch of the iPhone earlier this year, Apple's lineup of devices has expanded to a significant number, which has led to the Cupertino-based company opting for some spring cleaning.

The tech giant is set to declare the iPhone 5c - the company's first attempt at making a budget phone - obsolete, relegating it to the heap of dead iPhones.

Apple's decision to declare the 5c obsolete comes just two years after the phone was demarcated as a 'vintage' product, which meant the company and its service providers could only provide certain repairs for the product, subject to part availability.

Now, the decision to relegate the phone to 'obsolete' status means the company will end all services and repairs for the 5c.

The iPhone 5c was also the first of the San Francisco company's phones to be available in bright colours, including blue, green, pink, yellow, and white, with a polycarbonate shell.

In addition to the 5c, Apple is also set to mark the third-generation iPad mini also obsolete at the same time.
