They could have bought a car, but chose love: Indian techie couple spends lakhs to reunite with their golden retriever in Australia
Love knows no bounds, not even continents. Divya and John, a software professional couple from Hyderabad, recently made headlines after reuniting with their golden retriever, Sky, in Australia, proving that love, patience, and perseverance can conquer every obstacle.

Sky Was More Than a Pet

For Divya and John, Sky wasn’t just a dog; he was family. The golden retriever brought joy, laughter, and comfort to their modest life in Hyderabad. "Sky was our anchor after long 12-hour shifts," says Divya. But when a career opportunity called them to Melbourne, the couple faced an agonising choice: leave Sky behind or risk everything to bring him along.

The Challenge of Pet Relocation to Australia

Australia has stringent pet import rules. Dogs from India cannot fly directly and must spend 180 days in a rabies-free country undergoing tests, vaccines, and quarantine. The cost? A staggering Rs 15 lakh. John explained, "We are not born with a silver spoon. Every penny had to be saved to bring Sky here." Friends and family advised them to adopt a new pet, but Divya and John knew that Sky was irreplaceable.

Dubai: The Waiting Ground

The couple chose Dubai for Sky’s quarantine, hoping the familiar Hindi-speaking environment would ease his stress. "Video calls became our lifeline," says Divya. Daily updates about Sky’s wellbeing, his eating habits, moods, and barks—kept the family emotionally tethered across continents. The six-month wait was grueling but necessary.

The Emotional Reunion

Finally, Sky boarded the flight to Melbourne. After an additional 10-day quarantine, the long-awaited reunion occurred. John recalls, "While we knew Sky would reunite with us, Sky did not. The look in his eyes when he saw us, something we will never forget." Today, Sky enjoys the freedom of green lawns and open skies, chasing frisbees and basking in the couple’s affection.

Love Over Materialism

The story of Divya, John, and Sky is a reminder of what truly matters in life. In a world obsessed with material wealth, this couple chose love, loyalty, and emotional bonds over convenience and money. Their unwavering determination to reunite with Sky is an inspiring narrative of unconditional love and devotion.
