Thalaikoothal OTT Release: When and where to watch Samuthirakani’s Tamil drama film

The OTT release date for the Tamil drama film Thalaikoothal has been set for March 3, 2023 on Netflix. The film, which was released in theatres on February 3, 2023, received mixed reviews from audiences and critics.

Thalaikoothal, starring Samuthirakani, Kathir, and Vasundhara, tells the story of the traditional practices of senicide (killing of the elderly) or involuntary euthanasia by their own family members, which is practised in some parts of Tamil Nadu’s southern districts.

According to reports, Thalaikoothal will premiere on Netflix this week. The Tamil film will be available for streaming on March 3, 2023.


While speaking about the film in an interview, director Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan discussed how the idea for the film came to him. “Lens was in competition at the Bangalore International Festival a few years back, when one person really liked it and suggested I make a film on Thalaikoothal”, the filmmaker said.

Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan was quoted about the plot of the movie, that the father is comatose, but his mind is very active, so he hears what everyone is saying and the story moves parallelly from his perspective as well. His love life comes to life in his dreams, bringing his story to life. When these two parallel stories are intertwined, viewers get a love-and-death story. So, while the father is dreaming of his romance, the people around him are discussing his death.
