Tennis legend Bjorn Borg left an event in Bengaluru meant to honour him because Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai did not arrive on time on Tuesday. The politician was nearly two hours late, according to reports.

The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) hosted the event to honour 11-time Grand Slam winner Bjorn Borg and former Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj. Borg travelled to Bengaluru to watch his son compete in the Bengaluru Open.

The programme honouring tennis legends was originally scheduled for 9:30 a.m. It was rescheduled for 10:15 a.m. because Basavaraj Bommai was running late. The Chief Minister, however, did not arrive until 11:15 a.m., by which time Borg had left the venue.

Due to the cancellation of the felicitation event, Bommai ended up watching the match for 15 to 20 minutes before leaving the venue, according to the reports.

"Both of them will be honoured at the Chief Minister's office tomorrow or the next day," KSLTA joint secretary Sunil Yajaman said on Tuesday.

"Basavaraj Bommai was late due to some of his commitments," an organiser said. He also said that they did inform Bommai that Borg would be watching his son play and would be unable to attend the felicitation. But the CM was upbeat about the situation and decided to come to the courts and watch some action."
