Telangana's monsoon mood swings continued into the weekend, with the Meteorological Centre in Hyderabad forecasting cloudy conditions and intermittent showers across the state on Saturday, July 18. After a wet Friday evening that soaked several neighbourhoods of the capital, the weather office has put Hyderabad city along with Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri under a yellow alert, signalling light to moderate rain or thundershowers through the day.

The city is currently overcast, with the mercury hovering around 25°C and a daytime high expected to touch nearly 28°C by afternoon. Forecasters have pegged the chance of rain today at roughly 30 percent. Skies are expected to stay grey through most of Saturday, a hangover from the Friday's spell.

On Friday night, neighbourhoods including Madhapur, Gachibowli, Ameerpet, Miyapur, Patancheru, Golconda, BHEL, Nallagandla and Kondapur bore the brunt of scattered showers between 8 pm and 10 pm, while the rest of the city experienced light drizzle. Data compiled by the Telangana Development Planning Society showed Asifnagar topping the city's rain-gauge chart with close to 19.5 mm, followed closely by Gachibowli and Mehdipatnam, both recording around 17 mm. Parts of Begum Bazar and Golconda weren't far behind either.

Eturnagaram in Mulugu district logged the season's highest rainfall for the day, crossing the 115 mm mark, ahead of Geesukonda and Paidipally in Warangal district, both of which saw rainfall in the 60-75 mm range. Hanmakonda and Dharur in Jogulamba Gadwal also featured among the wetter pockets, each recording rainfall in the 55-60 mm bracket.

Weather models point to a gradual uptick in rain chances as the weekend progresses, Sunday's outlook nudges toward a 40 percent chance of showers with daytime highs inching closer to 30°C, while Monday could see the probability climb further to around 65 percent, making it the most likely washout day of the coming week. From Tuesday onward, the intensity is expected to ease back somewhat, hovering in the 35-40 percent range as the system loses some steam.

While Hyderabad and its immediate neighbours sit under a yellow caution for isolated thundershowers, several districts further north and east have seen sharper alerts through the week, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar and Komaram Bheem Asifabad, along with pockets of Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam. Residents in these belts should keep an eye on official bulletins, as isolated spots could still see intense bursts even on days when the broader forecast reads "light to moderate."
