A horrific story has come to light from Telangana in which 100 dogs have allegedly been killed by some unknown person.

The founder of the Save A Stray organisation, Vidit Sharma has shared pictures of the killed dogs on his Twitter account. Tagging the Telangana CMO, and others, he has urged them to take action in the matter.

Street Dogs of Bombay, another organisation that works for stray animals, has shared a video of the same.

The tragic news came amid reports of dog attacks. Earlier this week, two kids were mauled to death in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh and Moradabad districts.

In another incident in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month, a middle-aged man was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs at Aligarh Muslim University premises.

Another tragic story of dog bite cases came from Chattisgarh, where a five-and-a-half-year-old girl was mauled to death by stray dogs. The incident took place at Talwapara village adjoining Baikunthpur town on Friday when Sukanti Majhi, the girl, had gone to a shop to buy snacks, a police official said. After she was attacked by dogs, she was taken to the district hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Dog biting cases have been rising in the last few years. According to Parliamentary data till November 2022, about 16 million incidents of dog biting took place between 2019 and 2022.

In view of the rising number of dog bite cases, the Centre has recently asked states and local bodies to deal with the growing number of stray dog bite cases. It asked municipal corporations to implement the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme and Anti Rabies Programme. By effective implementation of these rules, the ABC can be conducted by the local bodies which will help in reducing the stray dog population and addressing animal welfare issues, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying said in a release.
