Telangana Election 2026 Results: Of the 448 Wards whose results were declared till 11.30 a.m., Congress candidates won in 240 Wards and 140 by BRS
The ruling Congress has taken a lead over the opposition BRS and BJP as counting for the Telangana Municipal election progressed on Friday. Of the 2,582 wards in 116 municipalities where elections were held on February 11, Congress was ahead in 300, while BRS was leading in 170 wards at 10.45 AM. BJP candidates were ahead in 48 wards, as per initial trends. Exit polls before counting predicted a big win for the Congress across urban local bodies.

Congress takes lead in municipal elections in Telangana

Of the 448 Wards whose results were declared till 11.30 a.m., Congress candidates won in 240 Wards and 140 by BRS, as per information from Telangana State Election Commission.

The ruling Congress secured 240 wards in the Telangana Municipal elections, the opposition BRS bagged 140, the BJP trailed with 37 wards, as per early trends. Of the results of 448 wards declared, AIFB (All India Forward Block), AIMIM, CPI(M) and Independents won 6, 1,1 and 14 respectively.


Congress leaders at Gandhi Bhavan were seen celebrating when the party took the lead in 24 of the 116 municipalities. The premises, which serve as the party’s headquarters in Hyderabad, Telangana, saw workers bursting crackers in anticipation of a sweeping victory.

Twelve people were elected unanimously, official sources told PTI. The counting of votes began at 123 centres across the state at 8 am.

The election was held on February 11 for 2,582 wards in 116 municipalities and 414 wards in seven municipal corporations on February 11. The outcome of the three-cornered contest between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP and BRS is crucial for all of them as it would be an indicator of their popularity among the voters.

DGP B Shivadhar Reddy has said comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements have been put in place for the counting of votes.
