Telangana engineer tries "Dragon" movie-like ruse to land Infosys job, gets caught in 15 days and now faces legal trouble
In a bizarre incident, a software engineer from Telangana allegedly used a friend to impersonate him during a virtual job interview at Infosys, successfully landing the position. However, his deception was short-lived. Discrepancies in his communi...

According to a TOI report, 20-something Rapa Sai Prashanth, from Telangana, got his friend to attend a virtual job interview on his behalf. The impersonation helped him bag the job at Infosys. However, unlike the Tamil movie Dragon, where a similar plot plays out on screen, reality caught up quickly for Prashanth.
How the scam unfolded
As per a complaint filed by Kishore, accounts manager at Sampradaa Software Technologies, a recruitment firm for Infosys, Prashanth had applied for a role through a job portal. After verifying his documents, they were sent to Infosys via manager Shiva Prakash.Infosys conducted a virtual interview and sent Prashanth an offer letter on 20 January 2025. He joined the company, but staff soon noticed something odd.
Doubtful communication raised red flags
A senior police officer told TOI that while Prashanth was academically strong, he struggled with communication. During the interview, however, he spoke fluently, raising suspicions later when he could barely communicate at work.Upon checking interview screenshots and comparing them with his photos, the HR team realised that someone else had appeared for the interview.
Now on the run, but still wants pay
Prashanth, who returned to Hyderabad after being sacked, reportedly insists on being paid for his 15 days of work. The police have registered a case under the IT Act and Sections 318 (cheating) and 319 (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
TOI contacted Kishore and a colleague for comment, but both declined, citing the ongoing police investigation.
