Techie fired from Germany job now earns nearly ₹9 lakh a month from games and content after returning to India

A Mumbai-based independent game developer has shared how losing his job in Germany led him to build a successful career in game development and content creation. In a post on X, Anul Agarwal said he was laid off from his position as a Game Producer in Germany around three-and-a-half years ago and later returned to India to develop his own games.

Agarwal stated that his earnings are now approaching $10,000 per month in profits through a combination of apps, games and content creation.

Layoff prompted return to India

According to Agarwal, the opportunity to work in Germany was a major milestone in his professional journey, particularly as someone from a Tier-2 town in India.

He said that after losing his job, he decided to return to India and focus on building games independently. Agarwal attributed his dismissal to racism and internal mismanagement.

Social media helped secure opportunities

The developer said publicly sharing his work played a significant role in expanding his professional network and attracting collaborations.

According to Agarwal, showcasing his projects online led to freelance assignments and partnerships through LinkedIn. He also revealed that he began posting actively on X about six months ago and was able to monetise his account, earning around $5,000 from the platform.

Claims growing player base

Agarwal said that more than 70 million players have engaged with his web and mobile games. He added that he plans to continue developing new titles this year.

He also encouraged creators to build in public, stating that sharing work and experiences can create opportunities when presented in an engaging manner.

Comments on Germany

In a follow-up comment, Agarwal described Germany as one of the most racist countries he had experienced. He said that despite living in Scotland and England and travelling across Europe, he had not encountered similar treatment elsewhere as an Indian.
